BOOK TWO: A TWO HORSE TOWN
Word Count: 86,870
Set in the town of Two Horse in southern Montana, Kate comes to the aide of Ida Springfield, an eighty-two-year-old woman who is trying to save a band of wild horses from ending up in the slaughter house. If a proposal to build a dam passes, then Ida’s lake, the herd’s only water source, will dry up. The controversy between the environmentalists who want to save, not only the horses but the ecological integrity of Carbon County, and the ranchers who have held claim to the land since the mid-1800s, reaches a frenzy when the leading pro-ranch advocate is murdered on Ida’s property. When Ida’s great-grandson is falsely accused of the murder, Kate tries to prove his innocence. While doing do, she
uncovers Ida’s ulterior motive for opposing the dam. Resting in the bottom of Ida’s lake is the body of her missing husband, who everyone thought had abandoned his wife in 1937.
