Protagonist Kate Caraway and her husband, Jack Ryder, return to their home state of Texas and the small, Hill Country town of Wimberley, so Kate can investigate allegations of greyhound abuse. Before she discovers who is responsible for ill-treated and stolen greyhounds, Kate stumbles upon a murder resulting from the smuggling of illegal aliens across the Mexican border. By the time Kate links the two crimes together, the murderer has added Kate’s name to his list of troublesome people to be eliminated in this tale of hatred and revenge.
